Son charged with murder in court
A MAN charged with the murder of his father, whose body was found wrapped in bin bags at East Cowick appeared in court today.
Richard James Garner (30) of Morley Street, Old Goole, appeared before Beverley magistrates and was remanded in custody until July 10 when he will reappear before Hull Crown Court.
Frank Garner (62) went missing in July 2005. His body was found in a field near East Cowick on June 18.
A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.

THE man due to appear before Beverley Magistrates Court this morning charged with the murder of Frank Garner will now appear tomorrow.Richard James Garner (30) of Morley Street in Old Goole was expected to appear in court today but was taken ill overnight.
He was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary for a check up and detained, however he will appear at the next available magistrates court upon his release from hospital.
He is listed to appear on Tuesday.

Frank Garner's body was found on the evening of Wednesday June 18 by a member of the public who had been walking his dog close to the A614 near East Cowick.
Richard Garner is due to appear at Beverley Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

DETECTIVES investigating the death of Old Goole man Frank Garner have been granted extra time to question a man.
A 30-year-old Goole man was arrested on Wednesday night on suspicion of murder and has been in police custody since.
He appeared before Beverley Magistrates Court this morning (Friday) where a warrant for further detention was granted.
Detectives have been given a further 36 hours to detain the 30-year-old without charge.
This means detectives now have until Saturday night to interview him.

DETECTIVES investigating the death of Old Goole man Frank Garner have been granted further time to interview a man.
A 30-year-old Goole man was arrested on Wednesday night on suspicion of murder and has been in police custody since.
A Superintendent has granted permission that the man can remain in police custody for a further 12 hours without charge.
This means detectives have now have until almost 11am today to interview him.

Humberside Police said dectectives are currently interviewing the 30-year-old suspect.

A COMMUNITY leader has paid tribute to Old Goole man Frank Garner whose body was discovered nearly three years after he went missing.
Local councillor Pat O'Neil said Mr Garner, who is believed to have worked at Fisons in Old Goole before his retirement, had been a well-known person in the community.
"Everyone was mystified when he disappeared," she said.
"When he got on the bus the day before he was reported missing he said he was going to renew his bus pass but there is no record of him having done that."

Detectives investigating the death of a man whose body was found in grassland in East Cowick almost two weeks ago have identified him.
Humberside Police today named the victim as Frank Garner of Old Goole, who was born in June 1946.
A force spokesman said: "Forensic tests including DNA have been conducted and the results show the body is Mr Garner.
"A post mortem has been carried out and the cause of death at this time is inconclusive and further tests have been conducted and we await the results."
Mr Garner's body was found on the evening of Wednesday 18 June by a dog walker, close to the A614.
Mr Garner was reported missing to Humberside Police on Saturday July 30 2005.
Specially trained officers are currently supporting the family of Mr Garner who have asked at this time to be left alone to grieve.
The investigation into how Mr Garner died is continuing and detectives would like to speak to anyone who saw Mr Garner on or after Thursday July 28 2005.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was found in East Cowick last week.
Police were called to an area of grassland off the A614 last Wednesday at 9.15pm after a local man had discovered the decomposed remains of a human wrapped in a number of black bin bags while out walking his dog.
Scenes of crime officers and specialist scientists attended to try to discover the identity of the man, who was over the age of 50, was clothed, and appears to have been in situ for over two years.
Monday June 23
Speaking on Monday, DCI Kelk told the Courier: "Investigations are very much ongoing at this time and include many lines of enquiry.
"My team of detectives and I are working tirelessly to establish the identity of the man and also the full circumstances surrounding his death.
"A post mortem was carried out over the weekend and established that the man was over 50 years in age.
"From examinations so far of the scene it would appear the body had been in that position for over two years. Forensic examinations are continuing including DNA.
"We are continuing to speak to other surrounding forces in order to put together a comprehensive list of missing persons.
"I would like to speak to anyone who may have information about this man."

Humberside Police's Detective Chief Inspector Christine Kelk confirmed at a press briefing on Friday morning that the death was being treated as suspicious.
Officers are now looking through missing persons files.
